Happy 4th of July

July 4, 2007

Independence Day. It’s our only holiday that specifically celebrates the US. A holiday that graces us with a day off of work (for others, I don’t have a job to even have an off day), bbq’s and hotdogs.

Most countries celebrate an Independence Day or Liberation Day. Argentina celebrates its independence from Spain on July 9, which happened in 1816. Uganda celebrates Liberation Day on January 26, which only happened recently in 1986, after many dictators fell.

Recently I have been reading the book 1776 by David McCollough. Obviously it’s written about the Revoluationary War and details why we celebrate this Independence Day. It is extremely good. If you want to learn something about our history but want to be intrigued … then read this book!

Have a happy and safe Independence Day!!
